It's a symbol of maritime history and a popular spot for visitors It's also one of our favorite spots on the coast.Mon, 02 Jun 2025 01:47:56 GMT<p>The Oregon coast has a lot of popular towns and coastal features, but for me, none of them feel as much like a coastal home away from home as Newport. Integral to its interest is the historical aspect of the lighthouse, located on Yaquina Head and known as the Yaquina Head Light.</p> <p>You can read the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yaquina_Head_Light">Wikipedia entry</a> for yourself, but the lighthouse was built in Paris in 1868 and then shipped to Oregon.</p> <p>You can now tour the lighthouse, including climbing the stairs and staring into the Fresnel lens. It’s well worth doing.</p>
